Wise as Serpents, Harmless as Doves!

Matthew 10:16

16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

People are starting to remove their head from the fog enough to acknowledge that social media as it exists now is "toxic".

People are weak, we are all the worst of sinners and like all things we have created, no matter the innovations involved we have twisted this medium into depravity and sin.

God has allowed us to have theses forms of communication for many reasons we do not understand. God will not be mocked and he will use even the evil of social media to his glory.

In the meantime we are still responsible.

As we can see human beings are very gullible and take the easy way out by believing anything they see or hear on social media and the internet.

As a Christian we are mandated to use the internet, and social media to spread the Gospel to the ends of the earth, counsel others in wisdom, or just listen.

We as human beings can change our culture for the better.

We can let our legislators know we want social media like Facebook etc. to be made accountable and not be allowed to run amok.

The current testimony of whistleblower Frances Haugen is making us look at th reality brought upon us by greed and sin.

"Who is Frances Haugen, the whistleblower who is taking on Facebook?

On Sunday night, Haugen told 60 Minutes that she was the source of leaked documents to The Wall Street Journal and to lawmakers. It was the first time she spoke publicly.

Haugen is calling herself "an advocate for public oversight of social media." She has a new website, Twitter profile and Instagram account.

Her message: She wants to fix Facebook, not harm it.

Haugen, 37, was employed at Facebook for nearly two years. She worked on the civic integrity team as a product manager to combat election interference and misinformation. Before working at Facebook, she was a product manager at Google, Pinterest and Yelp...from the article: Who is Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen? Everything you need to know

The Good of Social Media

Social media allows us to discuss ideas and even challenge things in this world that oppress others. The blessing that the online community has given a voice to millions of people worldwide who would otherwise been kept silent in past generations is remarkable.

However our sin natures have used it for evil and discord.

The Apostle James tells us that our tongue is a fire that pollutes the whole person. Today through our of tongue we create a fire by what we type on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram which can harm others while also having damaging effects on our own souls.

In our time people are increasingly more isolated and alone. The people of God, the Body of Christ must continue to resist this trend by regularly gathering together, and building real community with other people. Through the Body of Christ we can build one another up in encouragement, and serve one another as God intended.

Social media has its place but God created us for real relationships with other people. Can you, will you put aside your addiction to social media and get back out into the world? Christ is waiting!!

You and I as Christians CAN STOP using social media, cut back on our usage, or let our government officials know how we feel. Will we let the big money of social media determine what we think and do or will we be wise and have discernment as from our Lord to do the right thing!!
