Cancer | Joni Eareckson Tada Shares Her Thoughts About Cancer

"Joni Eareckson Tada has endured two bouts with breast cancer. As Joni has shared, her cancer diagnoses have troubled many people—isn’t quadriplegia and chronic pain enough? Why would God allow Joni to get cancer? Joni herself was surprised by her diagnoses when they happened, and she didn’t blame her friends for feeling troubled. But through diagnosis, surgery, and chemotherapy, Joni has kept her eyes and heart on Jesus. If you ask Joni, she will tell you that she isn't the same after facing cancer two times. She came out more like Jesus: more hopeful and trusting, more mature, more filled with God’s Spirit. As Joni says, “When we demonstrate our loyalty to the Lord Jesus through a tough trial, our faith gets confirmed and strengthened. Not only that; we also bring delight to the Lord as we draw near to him. It gives God great joy to see that we love holding tightly onto him through a hard trial.” Amid her toughest trials, Joni leans on Jesus. And she encourages you to turn to her Savior and Healer, Jesus Christ. So whatever trials you face, cancer or otherwise, let Jesus carry you, just like he carries Joni.
