Christian Culture in America

Christian Culture

Is a Christian Culture even possible in America anymore? Although in my opinion America has never been a Christian nation, America was founded with Christian principals. We only need go as far as scripture and read about ancient Israel and their cycles of repeated sin and the many times God saved them from themselves to understand Americas problem.

Culture is the religions, customs, arts, social institutions, and achievements of a particular nation, people, or other social group.

The Bible makes it clear in Ephesians 1 that Jesus Christ, through his church, is Lord of all things. Therefore there are no areas of life immune to Christ’s Lordship, including all the cultures in our world today.

The reality is we in America have not lived in a Christian culture for decades. There are some who say we have not had a Christian culture since right after the Civil War. That may or may not be true but there can be no doubt that America has forgotten God.

The religion of secularism has been advancing along with our fall into depravity and sin.

We need only look at The Humanist Manifesto to have some idea of how far we have fallen.

"This work has been declared by the AHA board as historic, and is superseded by Humanist Manifesto III

The Manifesto is a product of many minds. It was designed to represent a developing point of view, not a new creed. The individuals whose signatures appear would, had they been writing individual statements, have stated the propositions in differing terms. The importance of the document is that more than thirty men have come to general agreement on matters of final concern and that these men are undoubtedly representative of a large number who are forging a new philosophy out of the materials of the modern world.

– Raymond B. Bragg (1933)

..FIRST: Religious humanists regard the universe as self-existing and not created.

SECOND: Humanism believes that man is a part of nature and that he has emerged as a result of a continuous process.

THIRD: Holding an organic view of life, humanists find that the traditional dualism of mind and body must be rejected..." from the website: American Humanist Association

Secular humanists are not against religion, they are only against a religion like Christianity, that affirms a sovereign God.

Secularism promotes the conviction that there is no God, or that if there is a God, He is not disengaged and not involved in this world. We are then left to help and save ourselves.

There is a lot of yelling and cursing right now from many Christians about how they are going to retake the society for Christ. Yet sadly I am afraid most of those who make the most noise are immature if not apostate Christians with no understanding of their faith. We are culturally ignorant and really have no idea what to do.

Christians today lack consensus about many things including their faith. Tribalism has taken over and seems to possess many self-proclaimed Christians. We argue on social media, in the church (when we go) and everywhere else.

While we are fighting with each other, the Devil’s in our world, the modernists along with the Bible-haters, heretics, abortionists, pornographers, Marxists etc. can function unhindered. To counter this in our culture we must be relevant Christians, who see where God’s work must be done and we must do it without fail.

We must be patient Christians, willing to wait on God and not get ahead of Him. This requires us to be faithful and let God work His sovereign will in His own sovereign time.

We must also be charitable Christians, who love God and our neighbor.

Acts 13:36, “For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell asleep.”

We must be able to say at the end of our days we have served not only our country but our culture and our generation.
