“We have learned that history is something that takes no notice whatever of our expectations.”

An American CAESAR is INEVITABLE
Let's be self- reflective this morning and consider ourselves and our national health.
America it seems has never been more divided.
We are a sinful, prideful people! Anyone disagree?
We blame everyone else but ourselves for what is happening in everything from religion to politics.
If you look at history (and the Bible) there is no doubt nations go through cycles and ultimately collapse. Babylon, Greece, and The Roman Empire (after about 1,000 years) has come and gone. Is it possible then that the United States, like so many superpowers of the past, could be turned to ashes?
Mark 3:24 24 If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.
How many of us actually read history or the Bible?
Do we as citizens even care?
History and God's Word has proved, time and again, that a nation's moral condition/character are critical to its endurance. God's moral law applies to nations as well as individuals. Paul wrote: "Do not be deceived; God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap" (Galatians 6:7). Individuals and nations that sow immorality, violence and oppression will not long endure.
We (You and I) Have Failed America!
Former Education Secretary made this observation in his book: The Death of Outrage (link):
"National prosperity, as it happens, is largely dependent on lots of good private character. If lying, manipulation, sloth, lack of discipline, and personal irresponsibility become commonplace, the national economy grinds down. A society that produces street predators and white-collar criminals has to pay for prison cells. A society in which drug use is rampant must pay for drug treatment centers. The breaking up of families means many more foster homes and lower high school graduation rates. A society that is parsimonious in its personal charity (in terms of both time and money) will require more government welfare. Just as there are enormous financial benefits to moral health, there are enormous financial costs to moral collapse".
We are deep into moral collapse. Like the many nations before us we destroy ourselves in our sin and pride.
We elect politicians who are like us, they lie, steal, gossip, malign, watch porn, cheat on their spouses etc. There is no moral high ground. Being offended or lamenting for the nostalgia of past generations is not bearing any kind of cross!
Have we as Oswald Spengler predicted in his book "The Fall of the West" reached a point of no return?
"And so we come to the truly haunting question that confronts America in these times of growing global instability—whether, as the last nation of the West, America is destined to fulfill Spengler’s vision of hegemonic zeal mixed with a push toward dictatorship. Here’s where the natural aversion to Spengler’s dogmatic determinism will likely come into play. The answer is no, America’s future is in American hands. But Spengler’s audacious work stands as a great warning to Americans bent on protecting the hallowed civic institutions established at the founding of their Republic. The era of Western cultural health is dead, and it died pretty much as Spengler predicted it would. And no doubt his study of previous great civilizations did in fact accurately identify pressures and forces that emerge at particular points in civilizational development and push toward empire and Caesarism. This push can be resisted by a free people dedicated to the protection of their institutions of old. But they won’t be protected if events are placed on autopilot." from the article: Spengler and Imperial America
Are we entering Caesarism and dictatorship?
Spengler may be correct or partially so.
Yet what happens in our nation is HIGHLY dependent on the condition of our souls and our relationship with our LORD.
If we have replaced our faith in God with faith in politics which seems to be the case with many then we will fall!
Warning signs are everywhere as we become more decadent, immoral and evil. Yet there is still time for us to repent as a nation and individually. Will we listen to God's warnings, will we read his word and return to the Savior of the world! Jesus said: "Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man" (Luke 21:36). We need to take action, pray, confess, repent by changing our behavior before it is too late!
But will we?
