Icons Unearthed: The Lord of the Rings
We often overlook the great works of literature and film we have access to at this time in the history of the world.
We are typically cynical, ungrateful, and self-absorbed about much of life.
And as Westerners, we also take a lot for granted.
Many excellent books have been adapted to the big screen and for some (like The Lord of the Rings), to achieve a unique vision took years and several film adaptations.
Director Peter Jackson and his writers created a high mark that may never be equaled.
I think today we are seeing another book-to-film adaptation that excels with "Dune" books from Frank Herbert being directed by Denis Villeneuve.
The video below from VICE provides an excellent look back at the Peter Jackson movies.

"After several failed attempts to adapt the books and one half-successful animated movie, an unlikely hero takes on the film deemed by many to be impossible." from the video introduction
