Khata - "Sin"
"The word “sin” is one of the most common bad words in the Bible, but what does it really mean? In this video, we’ll explore the concept of “moral failure” that underlies this important biblical word. Get ready to discover a profound and realistic portrait of the human condition." from the video introduction.
Sin, what is it?
You and I commit sins and we have since we were very young.
But what is a sin?
The Bible Project Bad Words Series looks at this.
Khata in Hebrew, Sin means failure to fulfill a goal, not to love god
or others with the treatment they deserve.
Yet the act of sin and what sin is is also hard to define.
This is the first of 3 videos from The Bible Project; the next two being Transgressions and Iniquity.
“The most experienced psychologist or observer of human nature knows infinitely less of the human heart than the simplest Christian who lives beneath the Cross of Jesus. The greatest psychological insight, ability, and experience cannot grasp this one thing: what sin is.
Worldly wisdom knows what distress and weakness and failure are, but it does not know the godlessness of men. And so it also does not know that man is destroyed only by his sin and can be healed only by forgiveness. Only the Christian knows this.
In the presence of a psychiatrist I can only be a sick man; in the presence of a Christian brother I can dare to be a sinner.”
