The 2024 Olympics Boxing Controversy, Social Media, and Our Unjust Judgementalism

If you want to take a reading of humanity's sinful nature and depraved hearts there is no better place than the Olympics.

Begin at the beginning with the blasphemous "queering" of the Last Supper (and subsequent denials) and then the incident with the boxing match and we have but a sample of our moral decline and godlessness.

We are quick to judge by what we see on the screen, read on social media, or take from the entertainment we call the news.

Let's take a closer look at the boxing controversy based on what we know or think we know.

Many people just based on what they saw were immediately sure that Imane Khelif was a male. Just to be clear we could not see this person's genitalia or have insight into this person's genetic makeup.

I know many women with masculine facial and physical traits and features but they are still as God made them female.

Likewise, there are many men with feminine traits and features that are not homosexual or transgender but also just as God made them.

Why are we SO quick to judge, especially about sexual orientation?

Imagine how hurtful and discouraging this is to Imane and her family!

We should pray for Imane Khelif and her family as they struggle through this very public attack.

Yes, there are many sexual sins we all commit but we seldom make them a controversy. Of course, the sensational nature of the Olympics brings every little thing into discussion.

Below is an article from Prof. James F. McGrath that gives some clarity to this controversy.

What If Imane Khelif Was Your Daughter?

"Imane Khelif has become the center of a lot of news reporting, but not because of her Olympic victory. That someone got hurt during a boxing match should be no surprise and isn’t news. What should surprise us and cause us all to reflect is when random people think they can decide whether someone they do not know is a man or a woman.

On the right is a photo of the woman is at the center of this. It isn’t a recent photo, but that may be helpful.

You see, there are people who claim to be Christians shouting loudly that the girl in the photo, Imane Khelif, who is now an adult and a boxer, is a man.

I have no knowledge of this woman’s chromosomes or her genitalia. I’m guessing neither do you. What we can confirm with certainty is that she was declared a girl at birth and has been raised that way.

Might she have a chromosomal anomaly of some sort? Possibly. Do we have evidence of that at present? No. The references to Khelif having failed a test was, according to all the sources that provide relevant details, a test of her testosterone levels. Many female athletes have higher levels of testosterone than the average woman. The use of such tests has been controversial in both the sporting and scientific communities..." from the article: What If Imane Khelif Was Your Daughter?

Fact Check: Olympics boxing gender testing controversy explained

"Imane Khelif and Lin Yu-ting are female boxers, but they are facing attacks from anti-LGBTQ+ conservatives online who claim they're transgender

What to Know

Two female boxers who were disqualified from the 2023 world championship after being judged to have failed gender eligibility tests were cleared to fight at the Olympic Games in Paris, and it sparked online outrage from conservatives and anti-LGBTQ+ commentators

International Boxing Association Russian president, Umar Kremlev, claimed that DNA test results showed the two athletes have XY chromosomes, but the results were never published

IOC said it stands by the athletes and their eligibility to compete.

Political outrage surrounding two women competing in boxing at the Paris Olympics stems from "a lot of misinformation," an International Olympics Committee spokesperson said Friday.

It all began when the IOC said Algerian boxer Imane Khelif and Lin Yu-ting of Taiwan were allowed to compete at the 2024 Olympics after the International Boxing Association (IBA) disqualified them for unspecified gender eligibility tests from the 2023 world championships --- despite them having already competed.

Both boxers have long been competing as women and neither athlete identifies as transgender.

Here are some questions viewers have after conservatives like former U.S. President Donald Trump, Italian Premier Giorgia Meloni and other right-wing commentators sparked an online outcry that men shouldn't be allowed to compete with women..." from the article: Fact Check: Olympics boxing gender testing controversy explained
