The Booksellers - Full Documentary
"As an author who writes under several pen names and struggled to ever get published, Amazon has been a blessing and a curse. It took the gatekeepers out of the way and now anyone can be a published author and sell his or her books. But it has also destroyed small book stores, and really hurt the chains as well. Some would argue it has also seriously hurt the quality of the writing that is out there. I'm not sure about that. In my opinion there are few adventures in life quite like walking into a small out of the way bookstore for the first time, and trust me, I've had some adventures in my 71 years on this planet. A world without bookstores or libraries is unthinkable. Some people understand and some don't and you can't really explain it to the people who don't understand the importance of books, and I mean physical, tangible books; something you can hold, and carry, and even smell when it starts to age. Yes, I confess, I love the smell of old books and the stacks in the Bangor library in Maine and even old bookstores."
