The Incredible Story of the Greek Statue at the Louvre Museum: Winged Victory of Samothrace - AT
"This film offers to follow an exceptional construction site, that of the restoration of one of the great icons of the Louvre Museum. A masterpiece of Greek sculpture, around which millions of visitors flock each year, the monument is nevertheless little known to the general public. Archaeologists and art historians have been conducting research for many years to elucidate its last mysteries. Based on the major stages of its restoration, this film tells the story of a sculpture that no longer has a head or arms, more than two millennia old, which made the journey from a small Greek island almost 150 years ago to Paris, in "spare parts". This monument, which is one of the most spectacular and accomplished expressions of Greek sculpture from the Hellenistic period, has dominated the Daru staircase of the Louvre Museum since 1883.
