Was there Death and Suffering before Adam and Eve?
Could there have been death and suffering before Adam and Eve sinned? There was a fall before the Fall of humanity. Satan fell before man therefore the possibility exists that that rebellion could have included death and destruction, and likely it did. We are also reminded that the Bible was written for the people of that time, the time of Moses. It was written to them for us.
If we place the time of dinosaurs before mankind there then was animal death.
The curse of Genesis 3 was that Adam and Eve, not animals, should die for their disobedience. Animal death before the Fall then is compatible with Christian doctrine. For humans, Genesis 3 and other scriptures may be speaking primarily of spiritual death, not physical death.
Jesus pointed to the role of death in nature as a parable for the importance of His own death. Just as the death of an animal or organism allows for the rebirth and flourishing of life, so the death of Jesus leads to a rebirth and new life for mankind.
Romans 5:12 12 Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned.
