"Reality is under assault. Verbal confusion reigns. Truth and illusion have merged. Mental chaos makes it hard to fathom what is happening. We feel trapped in a hall of mirrors. Exposed lies are answered with other lies. The rational is countered with the irrational. Cognitive dissonance prevails. We endure a disquieting shame and even guilt. Tens of millions of Americans, especially women, undocumented workers, Muslims and African-Americans, suffer the acute anxiety of being pursued by a predator. All this is by design. Demagogues always infect the governed with their own psychosis.
"The comparison between totalitarianism and psychosis is not incidental," the psychiatrist Joost A.M. Meerloo wrote in his book "The Rape of the Mind: The Psychology of Thought Control, Menticide, and Brainwashing." "Delusional thinking inevitably creeps into every form of tyranny and despotism. Unconscious backward forces come into action. Evil powers from the archaic past return. An automatic compulsion to go on to self-destruction develops, to justify one mistake with a new one; to enlarge and expand the vicious pathological circle becomes the dominating end of life. The frightened man, burdened by a culture he does not understand, retreats into the brute's fantasy of limitless power in order to cover up the vacuum inside himself. This fantasy starts with the leaders and is later taken over by the masses they oppress." from the article: American Psychosis
You can apply all of the above to the so called Left and the so called Right.
The more we ignore God, the more we ignore Christ and the further down we go as a culture into chaos. This is evident. The paranoia and folly that you witness in the interviews in the video below cannot be in any way grounded in faith that Christ is in all circumstances.
This willingness we have now as a people to by and large believe what anyone says is sheep being led to slaughter.
Does this article show my confirmation bias? Yes it does but I will admit I may be wrong about many things to do with politics etc. but I will stand by being sober minded and not foolish. I stand by Christ should be our focus and not some conspiracy theory that satisfies our fears.
As Chris Hedges points out in 'American Psychosis' Americans have forgotten who we are and now have a misunderstanding of the wider world and where we are going. This is so very evident in all of the voices shouting. The drug of illusion has many Americans in its grip. We have lost the ability to be self-reflective, even most Christians I know lack this ability. Our hope is now through illusion. I hope the election was a fraud so Trump can be president. This is a collective delusion that is rampant in our nation.
Again the solution to our collective psychosis is not recounting ballots or reinstate some politician it is found in our Lord and a Gospel centered life!!
We are captive of the Cult of Self, self idolatry, we want fame on Twitter or You tube.
America is repeating the pattern of decline other civilizations have in the past. When we ignore God and sin we fall.
It's never to late. We must separate ourselves form this idolatrous illusion of hero worship and self promotion and seek God's mercy and turn away from our sin and idolatry.
